Beauphoria - An Homage to Beauty

Who hasn’t felt the allure of the world-famous French and Italian luxury brands? Brands that craft tailoring masterpieces and stand out for their unparalleled hand-craftsmanship, creative innovations and exquisite materials.

Meanwhile, their stylistic directions might be completely opposed: from subtle and elegant to extravagant and glamourous. But one thing unites them: their aspiration to be different, out of the ordinary and far from arbitrary. Another quality all beautiful things have in common is a curated balance of form, colour and materials that are pleasing to the eye of the beholder and substantiate their attractiveness and desirability.

Doing something out of the ordinary means being innovative and breaking away from convention. For Poggenpohl, this guiding principle was the starting point for a new planning philosophy in the approach to this year’s open-house exhibition.

Alongside the existing underlying principles of Poggenpohl kitchens, such as optimal functional planning and visually blending into the existing architecture, the goal was to enrich the kitchen with elements that evoke the desired emotions and create experiences with their special qualities.

Milan is the city of fashion and design, which is why a design firm from Milan was commissioned with the design. The result is a brand new concept that lends the kitchen a wholly unusual and glamourous appearance through stylistic extravagances.

These unique stylistic features are used intentionally and with conscious restraint, creating a calculated sense of balance that results in a holistically designed appearance and strikes an emotional chord. This new approach to the use of design elements is demonstrated using two exhibits that innovatively and progressively interpret wood as a material. While in the past, wood was showcased in a variety of traditional ways, the new designs draw on architectural themes, resulting in a very graphic, elegant and artistic appearance.

The basis for this free and novel form of design is provided by two new front concepts, which have more than double the material thickness than the fronts in the previous portfolio. They are hand-finished to the highest standard and their construction enables an intense play of light and shadow, giving the kitchen a sculptural character and beauty.

To reflect the multifaceted spectrum of creative possibilities, both kitchens composed of different materials. One exhibit uses dark oak with accents in aluminium and black steel to create a look that is elegant, cool, graphic and disciplined. The second consists of light oak, combined with champagne-coloured metal and sand-coloured ceramics. This kitchen unexpectedly engulfs the beholder, as the rich and opulent curation of exquisite materials vehemently appeals to the senses.

Alongside their avant-garde planning philosophy and unique material aesthetic, the exhibits contain further innovations in the form of technical elements. When opened, electric lifting elements in both kitchens present numerous kitchen utensils and extend an invitation to cook. When closed, they are completely invisible and conceal anything that is visually incompatible with the beauty and aesthetic of the kitchen.
